Summer 2018: Our Bucket List

This summer bring’s a family first for us, our first school summer holiday.  Jack has finished his first full term at pre-school, and we are already speeding through the holidays.  Before Jack broke up from school, I wrote down a list of all the things we could do, in an attempt to get us out of the house, everyday.

We are already making a nice little dent into our list, and I’m sharing the contents publicly today, so that I feel obliged to complete it for the boys.  Luckily, the weather has been very kind to us and it would be lovely if this sunshine would last throughout the Summer.

So, without further ado ~ here’s our Summer Bucket List…

Enjoy a family holiday – We enjoyed a fantastic and unforgettable holiday at Bluestone National Park Resort at the beginning of July.  Bluestone, is now firmly on our 2019 Summer Bucket List too.

Complete a Maize Maze – Since we visited Millets Farm (Oxfordshire) earlier in the year, and we saw the signs for the upcoming Maize Maze, it has been a must-do.  We took Nanny with us a couple of weeks ago, and had great fun trying to find our way around the maze.

Go crazy at a Soft Play Centre – We are lucky to have a soft play centre up the road from us, and as much as I loathe those places, the boys think otherwise.  We visited recently with friends and the boys slept all night – WIN!

Day out with Thomas – We’ve been to numerous of these events at different railway stations.  Without a doubt, The Watercress Line have this event mastered!  We travelled down to Ropley on Monday and had a fantastic time meeting Thomas and his Friends.  The Day Out With Thomas event is currently running until 12th August and comes highly recommended!

Feed the ducks – We visited Thatcham Lakes late last week with friends.  Feeding the ducks is definitely one of our favourite things to do.

Visit Warwick Castle – This has been on my radar for a long time and I’m adamant that we will visit this Summer.

Paint and hide rocks – This fun craze seems to be sweeping the nation, and it’s huge here in Newbury.  We’ve already painted our rocks and have hidden half of them.  We will hide the rest over the holidays.

Canal Boat Trip – We are very lucky to have the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal run right through Newbury Town.  The boys love watching the narrowboats go by and I’ve never travelled on one, so it’s something I’d like to do.

Fruit picking – It’s official.  Strawberries are the best by far when picked and eaten fresh.  We’ve been and picked strawberries and raspberries at Millets Farm recently.  I may have also spied a row of Blackberry bushes local to us… shhh.

Catch a movie at the Cinema – We watched the new Incredibles 2 movie last week and loved it.  We still want to see the new Thomas and Friends movie.

Make a Bug Hotel – Now I hate bugs, they make me cringe but the boys love hunting them down.  When we visited Bluestone, we stumbled across plenty of Bug Hotels and the boys thought they were fab.  I’ve promised that we can make our own one in the garden.

Bake some cupcakes – I’ve got the cupcake kit in the cupboard already, but I get in a sweat just thinking about baking.  It’s a fun thing to do with small children though, right?

Visit a Beach – I just have to take the boys to a beach this Summer.  We only live an hour from the coast and so really should try harder to get there often.  Who doesn’t love the beach?

Potty Train Jack – This is going surprisingly well.  We’ve been potty training since last weekend and we rarely have an accident now.  I’d love for Jack to return to school nappy free.

And there we have it. 😀  What’s on your Summer Bucket List?

What a lovely idea to do a summer holiday bucket list. I think I will get the children to write one for the last couple of weeks.
