Review and Competition: KidloLand

Jack has been playing on the award winning KidloLand app over the last couple of weeks.  It is an interactive and educational app for preschool children packed with nursery rhymes, educational songs and activities plus more.

The KidloLand team kindly contacted us to see whether Jack would like a free years subscription to enjoy.  I was a bit dubious at first as he is only 17 months old and I wasn’t sure if he would be able to make good use of it.  After checking the app online, I could see that it looked simple to use and as Jack loves his nursery rhymes at the moment, I decided that we would give it a go.

The app has over 245+ rhymes and songs plus 100+ activities for kids.  Activities include phonics, animals, numbers, colours and shapes with more being added every month.

The pictures are in cartoon form and are bold and colourful.  The songs are interactive during play, so if you press one of the little characters they come to life.  They also have subtitles along the bottom.

Jack enjoys playing on the app, and seems to prefer the rhymes and animal activities.  We always sing nursery rhymes in our house with Jack.  ‘Row, row, row your boat’ has been Jack’s favourite since going to Nursery a few months ago, it’s one we always sing so guess what I heard on repeat for the first couple of days.

I was surprised at how well he can work the app at just 17months, it took him a few goes to get the hang of it but I can leave him to it now.  He won’t put the phone down now until I remove it from him.  He used it happily during a 2hr journey to London at the weekend.

The app is great for children for the learning of songs, ABCs, animals, colours and fruits.  Also for improving cognitive skills and problem solving, imagination and creativity, fine motor and memory skills.

The app is free to download on both iOS and Google.  There are some songs and activities that you can enjoy free of charge but for the full package you will need to subscribe to one of the numerous options available.

Within the app, you need to download the individual packages before you can use them.  The beauty is that you only need to download one package at a time, which can then be deleted which will keep your storage usage to a minimum.  Once the packages have been downloaded, you can use them offline which is perfect when travelling.  The settings menu can only be accessed using a calculation to avoid little ones from deleting/downloading packages.

I love that it would give my youngest something to play with – she hasn’t had a lot of experience with technology yet as I haven’t found anything appropriate for her to use, this would be great 🙂
