I had the pleasure of dining at the Giggling Squid in Windsor recently, with a lovely view looking out directly onto Windsor Castle. The Thai food restaurant opened in Windsor in July 2018 and is one of the latest restaurants in the ever increasing Giggling Squid chain. Here’s what we thought of our visit…
Giggling Squid Windsor
We were greeted with a lovely welcome by the staff and were shown to our table by our Waiter Harry. On arrival and early into the evening, the restaurant was already full with dining guests. A promising start and good indication of a well liked restaurant.
I was super excited to see the interior decor for myself, having already fallen in love with it on Instagram. The quirky Thai food restaurant features beautiful floral decor, light and spacious dining areas and a nice charming atmosphere.
We were provided with menus and served some prawn crackers to enjoy whilst we chose our food. Should you visit a Giggling Squid restaurant, GET SOME PRAWN CRACKERS! They are gorgeous.
The House White Wine was our beverage of choice and tasty it was too. Dry and fruity, and very easy to drink.
To start, we chose the Moo Ping, Watermelon salad with pork floss, and Pork Ribs to share. We were both unsure of what to expect but were seriously impressed. The portion sizes were good and the food tasted lovely, fresh and flavoursome.
Service was really quick, and before we knew it, our Mains were being served. I had chosen the Sticky Chicken Stir Fry with a side of Jasmine Rice and my friend opted for the Thai Red Curry, with some Sticky Rice.
My Stir Fry was to die for and I could quite happily eat that dish every single day. Just looking at this picture now makes my mouth water. I’m told that the Thai Red Curry was really good too.
The Molten Chocolate Dessert, and Prosecco and Muddled Berry Chessecake, seemed to jump out at us from the menu and boy I’m glad they did. They were both yummy, but that cheesecake was something else and the winner for me.
So, Final thoughts
Harry, was fantastic the whole night through. Checking on us regularly enough but not too much. He certainly knew his stuff and was able to tell us all about the dishes when prompted. He was also able to tell us about some of the Thai cooking processes which we found really interesting.
In all, we had a very lovely evening at the restaurant and would certainly return. Guests came and went all evening and the restaurant was still full when we left. We both enjoyed a stroll around the Castle before heading home and concluded that we would happily return to the Giggling Squid again.
The Giggling Squid has restaurants located all across the UK, some of which are fantastically placed in iconic areas. Be sure to check them out, you certainly won’t be disappointed.
