Last weekend, we took Jack on a surprise trip to Drayton Manor’s Thomas Land. He absolutely loves anything to do with Thomas and Friends, so we just knew that we would be in for a day to remember.
We arrived at 10:30am armed with a picnic and headed into the park, we had taken Jack’s reigns with us and decided to leave his stroller in the car. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to see Jack’s little face when he caught a glimpse of Thomas.
There wasn’t any queues to contend with and we was pleasantly surprised when we found Thomas Land not far into the entrance of the park. Trevor spotted Cranky the Crane over the wall and showed him to Jack. Jack knew who it was straight away and his face lit up.
Now I know that we was in Thomas Land but I had no idea just how good this day was going to be. Jack looked gobsmacked the whole day, he went between looks of shock and smiles with each new sight of Thomas.
I loved that Jack was allowed on the rides and that the queues were nice and short. It was also a bonus that most of the queuing areas were covered as it rained for most of the day.
Trevor and I took it in turns to join Jack on the rides whilst the other took care of Hudson. Jack absolutely loved the Thomas Engine Tours ride which all four of us was able to go on. He also enjoyed the Sodor Classic Cars ride with Daddy.
I seemed to draw the short straw with Harold’s Helicopter Tours, which turned into the scariest ride of my life thanks to my fear of heights. Jack loved it though and Trevor looked on with laughter. Seriously, is there anything we wouldn’t do for our kids?
There was plenty of baby change facilities which was great but I would have liked to see some more covered seating areas as we had to leave Thomas Land in order to feed Jack and Hudson.
After our lunch we headed for the Dino Trail via. the zoo. Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain, the floor of the trail was like a mud pit so Trevor took Jack up to Spencer’s Outdoor Adventure Play area whilst I took a look around.
We took the train again, back to the entrance of Thomas Land and visited the larger of the two Thomas gift shops. Needless to say, Jack had his eyes on everything and we spent a small fortune.
Before we headed home at about 4pm, we was lucky enough to catch one of the hourly shows at Knapford Station. The Fat Controller can actually throw some moves, who knew?
It is safe to say that we had a fantastic day and that we will be visiting again next year, when Hudson will also be on his feet. I’m looking forward to it already.
