Review: Mothercare Expectant Parent Event

We recently attended our local Mothercare Expectant Parent event in Newbury.   If you haven’t been to one before and wondering whether its worth attending then here is our review.

On entering the store, we was greeted by a Mothercare representative and handed a gift bag which contained:

  • Leaflets for the local parenting services showcasing in store
  • Handy New Arrival  and Hospital Bag checklists
  • Numerous samples such as nappy rash ointment, baby food pouch, dummy, nutrition bar, pregnancy vitamins, washing detergent, nursing pads, sterilising tablets and breast milk storage bags
  • 10% off voucher for using in store
Goodie bag

In the centre of the store was a selection of stands and representatives for local companies offering a variety of parenting services, some included:

  • Water Babies – Local swimming for babies and toddlers
  • Ultrasound Direct – Private pregnancy and women’s health scans
  • Mother To Be – Local antenatal classes
  • Spoonful of Nana – Baby massage courses and yoga sessions
  • Memory Makers – Hand and foot print products
  • Jennifer Gillam Photography – Newborn photography sessions
  • Tiny Talk – Baby sign language classes
  • Newbury Slings – Local baby wearing consultancy
  • Other services – Car seat safety and bra fitting.

We spoke with Ultrasound Direct, who are based in store, and enquired about a 4D pregnancy ultrasound.  They are offered between 24 and 32 weeks with a optimum imaging time being 26 and 28 weeks which is the stage we are at now so I’ll need to book asap.

We also spoke with Water Babies who run their local sessions at Elcot Park Hotel in Hungerford.  The sessions sound wonderful for Jack who loves a swim, so we will be booking our free taster session soon.

Jacks goodies

We used our 10% off voucher in store that evening for some bits for Jack.  We have already purchased ‘Baby Dots’ new cot and moses basket whilst in a sale so don’t need any ‘big buys’ this time round.

When we attended previously (whilst pregnant with Jack), we used our voucher to purchase our travel system which was already on offer.  We managed to buy the Silver Cross Wayfarer and Simplicity Car Seat for £450.00 (usual price at the time was £630.00).  Bargain!  I have noticed that the same deal is currently on offer if you are after the Wayfarer.  I’d recommend it.

If you are expecting a little one sometime soon, you would be silly not to attend one of these events, we have found them to be very useful.

You can sign up to your local event on the Mothercare website or in your local store.

What a great idea for an event for parents to meet local suppliers all at the same time 🙂
